Vintage description 2007 Alsace

A vintage that will require a certain amount of selectiveness. After a fairly mild winter and a sunny spring, the beginning of the summer was a disaster in the region. July and August were not much of an improvement. However, September allowed the grapes to ripen slowly without burning the acidity. Many of the wine-growers, worried about the rot that appeared the year before, harvested too early before the grapes could ripen completely. The Pinot Gris suffered from this and became very diluted. This grape variety was generally more affected than the Pinot Blanc, the Riesling, the Pinot Noir, the Sylvaner and even the Muscat. The Gewurztraminer was apparently the least affected. Selectiveness is therefore important when buying ¿ choose those that were harvested late since these were saved by the good weather in September and certain have the potential to be really good.
