Vintage description 2007 Champagne

Following an early spring, favourable for the vines, the summer was marked by appalling weather conditions in Champagne. Despite the cold and rainy summer, the harvest began as early as 23rd August in some vineyards. A bit too early since an east wind picked up just two days later on the 25th, which helped to dry the grapes. The harvest lasted two months. The bad weather had particularly affected the Pinot Meunier and the results were disappointing. The Pinot Noir, often harvested too early, lacked ripeness. Fortunately the Chardonnay maintained Champagne's reputation that year. The wines from this grape variety were homogeneous and elegant, with a touch of acidity. These feature in the series of good vintages.
