Lot presentation

Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne Matrot (Domaine) La Garenne Matrot 2022

The wine

The Puligny-Montrachet appellation is home to prestigious Premier Crus such as La Garenne, set on a south-east-facing slope that encourages even, optimal ripening. The shallow and well-drained clay-limestone soils are composed of fine marls and limestone scree which deliver aromatic concentration and mineral tension. Manual harvests are followed by careful sorting to retain only the ripest and healthiest bunches. Pressing is gentle and progressive, followed by settling to obtain perfectly clear juice. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in French oak casks. Malolactic fermentation is then completed to soften acidity and enhance texture. Ageing extends over 12 months, with regular lees stirring, allowing the wine to develop aromatic complexity, balance and purity.
In the glass, the wine displays a pale yellow hue with golden highlights. The nose reveals white flower aromatics alongside notes of yellow fruit. On the palate, the wine is generous and creamy, lifted by a fine mineral tension that balances the richness of the Chardonnay.

About the Producer Domaine Matrot

Joseph Matrot, the grandson of vineyard owners in Puligny-Montrachet, settled in Meursault at his wife's family domaine in 1914. Six generations later, the sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot joined their parents Thierry and Pascale on the domaine. Since 2000, the 22 hectare vineyard has been converted to organic farming.
