Work of Art 14 years 2002 The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Cask n°76.86 - One of 580
The wine
An Aultmore distilled in 2002 and matured for 14 years in a refill sherry butt. This is a limited edition of 580 bottles for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by a group of friends with a particular passion for whisky. The club selects casks whose bottles are then only available to members. The name of the distillery is not mentioned on the label but each distillery is given a number as the malt is bottled. The first cask selected by the SMWS, for example, was Glenfarclas, and it therefore uses the number 1. The second number refers to the number of bottlings from each distillery. The club was sold to Glenmorangie in 2004 and then to a group of investors in 2016.
About the Producer Aultmore
Built in 1896 by Alexander Edward near the town of Keith, Speyside, Aultmore has long been used for blends. Popular in this role with its successive owners—Distillers Company Limited (now Diageo) until 1988, and John Dewar & Sons, who briefly owned the distillery from 1923 to 1925—Aultmore's range of single malts was not launched until 2014, which is a shame as the slow distillation in small stills with downward lyne arms gives the whisky a wonderfully aromatic and strong character.
