Lot presentation

Tormore 30 years 1988 Cadenhead's Annual Release 2019 One of 192 Cadenhead's Whisky Shop

The wine

A Tormore 30 year old distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2019. Cadenhead was founded in 1842 by George Duncan, who was quickly joined by William Cadenhead who renamed the business after Duncan’’s death in 1858. When Cadenhead in turn passed away in 1904, his nephew Robert Duthie took over and turned the business into the independent bottler it is today. After Duthie, it was managed by one of his employees, Ann Olivier, whose stubborn approach to running the business led to much of the stock having to be sold at auction by Christie’’s (London) in 1972 to feed the kitty and save the business. It was then sold to J. & A. Mitchell and Co, who also owned Springbank, and moved to Campbeltown. A limited edition of 192 bottles for the Cadenhead store in Campbeltown.

About the Producer Tormore

Scotland, Speyside. Distillery operational. Owner: Pernod Ricard

The first distillery built in the 20th century (1958-1960), Tormore quickly made a name for itself for both its architecture (the distillery's buildings are listed) and its malt born under the shadow of sherry casks, the Tormore 10 Year Old The Pure Highland Malt (80s) and the Tormore 10 Year Old Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky (70s).Nevertheless, it was a distillery designed primarily to produce malt for the blends of its various owners (Long John Distillers, Allied Domecq) known under the names Long John, Ballantine's and Stewart's Cream. Bought by Pernod Ricard in 2005, it would not be until 2014 that bottlings in its own name would really begin to appear, in the form of small batch limited editions aged for 14-16 years in American oak casks.
