Lot presentation

Relaxation in a Glass 31 years 1981 The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Cask n°72.33 - One of 190 - bottled 2013

The wine

A Miltonduff 31 year old distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2013, matured in refill hogsheads. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by a group of friends with a particular passion for whisky. The club selects casks whose bottles are then only available to members. The name of the distillery is not mentioned on the label, but each distillery is given a number as the malt is bottled. The first cask selected by the SMWS, for example, was Glenfarclas, and it therefore uses the number 1. The second number refers to the number of bottlings from each distillery. The club was sold to Glenmorangie in 2004 and then to a group of investors in 2016. A limited edition of 190 bottles.

About the Producer Mosstowie (voire Miltonduff)

Scotland, Speyside. Distillery dismantled.

Like the Glenburgie distillery, and under the aegis of the Canadian company Hiram Walk, Miltonduff was equipped with a pair of Lomond stills in 1964. 17 years later (1981), in the midst of economic crisis, the stills were removed, bringing the existence of Mosstowie to a premature end. Designed to increase the choice available to master blenders without having to build new distilleries, this type of practice fizzled out due to the economic climate and the difficulties associated with maintaining this type of equipment. The single malts were bottled primarily by independent bottlers, the oldest and rarest versions in Italy (Sestante), the vintages 1970, 1975 and 1979 by Gordon & MacPhail, and the 1973, 1978 and 1979 versions by Signatory Vintage.
