Château du tertre's second wine, this classic cru of the appellation is powerful with notes of red fruit. More info

Château du Tertre has been at the height of the Margaux appellation since the 18th century with its racy, longlasting wines. For its second wine, the Château keeps the same high quality work with a slightly different conception so that the cuvée can be enjoyed sooner. Made of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the vineyard spans 52 hectares of gravel-rich soil. The vinifications are done parcel-by-parcel and last around a month. It is matured for 12-15 months depending on the vintage, always in casks that have aged at least one wine already. In the glass, it has a ruby red colour and is easy to drink in its early years. We love its roundness and its subtly spicy notes.

Les Hauts du Tertre serve at a temperature of 16°C. It will pair perfectly with the following dishes: Epaule d'agneau au four, Cèpes à la bordelaise, Saint-Nectaire.

Peak: Drink until 2022

Information about domain Château du Tertre

Located on the higher ground in the appellation, Château du Tertre's vineyard, with gravelly, sandy soil, has the particularity of being a single block of vines entirely surrounded by forest. Several illustrious owners have left their mark on the property. The most prestigious include philosopher Michel de Montaigne's brother Thomas, and the Marquis de Ségur. In 1960 the vineyard was purchased by the Capbern Gasqueton family, the owners of Calon Ségur. The property was given a new lease of life in 1997, when it was purchased by Eric Albada Jelgersma. The Dutch businessman was already familiar with Margaux, having acquired Château Giscours a few years previously.
