  • Every wine lover should have a Château Lagrange in their collection. Prices for this tremendous cru have remained very reasonable. The wine is subtle yet ripe, balanced and surprisingly drinkable young. The most recent vintages have been outstanding while the 1989, 1990, 1996 and 2000 show that Lagrange ages in style.

One of the largest Médoc properties in terms of area, Château Lagrange's vineyard consists of a single plot. Since its purchase by a Japanese group in 1983, the property has benefitted from substantial, necessary investment. Château Lagrange has one of the most sophisticated vat rooms in the Médoc, consisting of 46 stainless steel vats of 220 hectolitres, all equipped with a temperature control system. Wines are aged in a completely new, air-conditioned cellar, in oak barrels, of which 50 to 60% are renewed each year, depending on the nature of the vintage. Vinification and ageing at Château Lagrange are carried out using methods and expertise suited to producing Saint Julien's typical tannic, very rich, ripe wine with a fairly low acidity and a substantial potential to age. From 1983 onwards a second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, has also been produced.
