This "En Caillerets" Premier Cru is grown in a Pinot Noir vineyard on well-drained limestone marl. The vines are cultivated without pesticides or insecticides; the winemaking process is surely the most natural in the world. The wine is matured on the lees in oak barrels for 15 months, and is neither filtered nor fined. The nose exhales vanilla notes in its youth; the complex palate is very full bodied. It is a rich, dense wine.
The famous historical domaine of Volnay, the Pousse d'Or has an exceptional vineyard with many premier and grand crus. Previously owned by Gérard Potel, it is now in the hands of Patrick Landanger. The vineyard tends to come close to organic farming and the winemaking process is carried out smoothly, in the most natural way possible and élevage is understated (with a low proportion of new casks). The quality of this work means they can produce wines with remarkable aromatic expression and excellent aging potential.
