  • What the experts say...

"It is a dense purple-colored, concentrated effort made from incredibly low yields of 15-20 hectoliters per hectare from 80-year old vines. A blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Cinsault, this tannic, backward, blockbuster vin de garde should open in 4-5 years, and last for two decades. It is an extracted, dense, atypically powerful 1999." Lot presentation
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul Jean-Pierre & Thierry Usseglio

    The wine

The Mon Aïeul cuvée is the result of a careful selection of parcels from the domain's oldest wines (up to 90 years). Vinification is conducted in whole bunches, and élevage takes place in vats to preserve an expressive fruitiness. The nose is distinguished by its complexity and offers notes of raspberry, licorice and spice. The palate is powerful and expressive, although it will take a few years for the tannins to become more supple.
