The wine

This is one of the landmark cuvées of Domaine Jacques Maillet, an estate run by Marie and Florian Curtet. It is a blend of Gamay, Pinot noir, and Mondeuse grown organically in sandstone soil and vinified with great care. The producers opted for a full-bunch infusion-style maceration so as not to extract too much, thus preserving the fruit’s purity. This process takes four to five weeks. The wine is then matured on lees before bottling with light filtration.
This natural, Savoie wine – no sulphur is used – offers a crimson colour in the glass. Its aromatic bouquet is marked by notes of red and black fruit, violet, gentle spices, and musk. As for the palate, it is surprisingly frank with a well-integrated tannic structure.
We recommend enjoying this wine within a few years.

Information about domain Jacques Maillet

A big name in Savoie viticulture, Jacques Maillet has been working in Chautagne near the Lac du Bourget since 1989. After leaving the cooperative to make his own wines, he put his all into drawing the best out of these magnificent terroirs, particularly the Cellier des Pauvres and Vignes du Seigneur parcels. The vineyard is grown organically and biodynamically, with only minimal amounts of sulphur added during vinification if necessary. Jacques Maillet retired in 2016 and Florian and Marie Curtet have carried on in this endeavour. This makes the wines produced by Jacques himself increasingly rare collectors' bottles.
