  • What the experts say...

"the 2013 La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc is one of the great dry whites of the vintage. Aromas of tangerine oil, caramelized grapefruit, figs and honeysuckle soar from this medium to full-bodied, rich, concentrated white wine. With terrific acidity as well as a vibrant, medium- to full-bodied mouthfeel and finish, it should provide immense pleasure for at least 2-3 decades." R. Parker (08/2014)

    The wine

La Mission Haut-Brion white wines are aged for nine to twelve months in oak barrels, half of which are replaced every year. Theses are wines for connoisseurs, produced in minute quantities with exceptional cellaring potential. Over time they develop honey, wax and spice aromas enhanced by ageing in oak barrels and they have a superb rich, creamy texture. The comparison with Haut-Brion white wine is fascinating. The two wines are without a shadow of a doubt two of the finest white Bordeaux wines.

Information about domain Château La Mission Haut Brion

The La Mission Haut-Brion domaine can trace its origins back to the 16th century. The de Lestonnac family owned the domaine until the death of Olive de Lestonnac in 1664. The property was then bequeathed to the missionary community of the Lazarist monks, an order founded by St Vincent de Paul. It was seized during the French Revolution and sold at auction in 1792, passing through a number of hands until it was bought in 1919 by Frédéric Otto Woltner. This renowned wine merchant introduced ground-breaking processes for the era, such as glass-lined steel fermentation vats. When his descendants sold the property in 1983, it was immediately bought by the Dillon family, who had owned Château Haut-Brion since 1935. The two crus are produced by terroirs with different characteristics and have retained their distinctive personalities. The power of La Mission is often contrasted with the subtlety of Haut-Brion.
