Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Zaccharie Château Thivin

    The wine

Cuvée Zacharie is this domain's grand vin and one of the most beautiful wines in all the region. It is made from very old and densely planted vines (10,000 vines per hectare). During maturation, the wine spends a tenth of its maturation time in new oak barrels and the rest of the time in 1 to 5 year old barrels (a maturation period of 9 months altogther). This wine is always very ripe and concentrated, offering a subtle woody aroma, tight tannins and a sublime finish. Plenty of ageing potential.

    Information about domain Château Thivin

Château Thivin is situated in the heart of Beaujolais, around the hill of Brouilly. The origins of this domain date back to the 12th century and the the first part of the manor house was built in the 14th century. In 1877, Zaccharie Geoffray bought Château Thivin at an auction with just under two hectacres of vines. It was his son Claude who really grew the domain from 1894. The next Claude, son of the first, took over the domain and dedicated himself to wine prodution with his wife Yvonne. Having not had children themselves, it was their nephew Claude who then took over the domain before handing it over to his own son Claude-Edouarde in 2007, thus keeping it in the family. The vineyard now covers 27 hectacres and is cultivaed with great care and without the use of insecticide. In the chai, the wines are matured in oak casks in beautiful vaulted cellars. Vinifications are carried out plot by plot. Château Thivin produces some of the best wine in the region thanks to their ability to express the terroir. They are fleshy with extremely delicate tannins.
