Lot presentation
Barbaresco Roagna

The wine

An emblematic figure of the Barolo appellation, domain Roagna is now run by Luca Roagna who represents the fifth generation on the property. It would be a mistake to neglect this Barbaresco cuvée. With a savoir-faire in organics expressed as great respect for the terroir and the Nebbiolo grape, this producer picks the grapes by hand once they are perfectly ripe. Luca Roagna even goes as far as picking each of his grapes individually. In the winery, fermentation is instigated by indigenous yeasts in large oak casks. There is a long and gentle extraction with an extremely low dose of added sulphur (35 mg/L). This wine needs a few years of ageing to reach its full potential. It has a limpid, garnet red hue in the glass, with a varied bouquet of dried flowers, red fruits, and white pepper. It is structured on the palate by good tannins and enlivened by a lovely acidity.

Information about domain Roagna

The Roagna family owns a historic domaine in the village of Barbaresco in the Piedmont. It began producing dry wines circa 1880, when the region was the area of choice for northern Italian sweet wine makers. The domaine was extended in 1989, and now also produces Barbarescos and Barolos. Luca, who has a diploma in oenology, made his first vintage in 2001. He is keen on long, gentle extractions which he believes are appropriate for the Nebbiolo grape variety. Sulphur is used sparingly at less than 35 mg/l, and the domaine is run along organic lines, even though it is not formally certified.
