The wine

Domaine Matrot is one of the estates at the historical forefront of the great Meursault wines. Thierry Matrot, the father of Elsa and Adèle who have run the estate since 2016, started to work in the vineyard and the cellar with his father in 1976. After a destructive frost in 1976, Thierry Matrot decided to renounce all the chemicals used on the vine and replaced the fertilisers with organic ones. Since then, they have continued this progressive path with more respect for the soil, the terroir and the climats found in Burgundy.
The Matrot estate is known for the extraordinary longevity of its red and white wines. For years now, these wines have stood out with their flawlessness and elegance. This bottle of les Combettes Premier Cru comes from the north of Puligny-Montrachet on the border with Perrières in Meursault, and faces due east, on a gentle slope with a limestone-clay soil, perfect for Chardonnay. In fact, this Chardonnay has been produced with excellent artistry, very reminiscent of the quality you would find in its Meursault neighbours. The wine dazzles with notes of cold stones, citrus fruits with more finesse and less liveliness than the average Meursault.
This Matrot wine, made from vines about 40 years old, spent 15 months in barrels that had already been used once or twice before it spent three months in vats to gain tension and length. This results in a superb white wine with an astounding finish.

Information about domain Domaine Matrot

Joseph Matrot, the grandson of vineyard owners in Puligny-Montrachet, settled in Meursault at his wife's family domaine in 1914. Six generations later, the sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot joined their parents Thierry and Pascale on the domaine. Since 2000, the 22 hectare vineyard has been converted to organic farming.
