Lac’‘Holl is a Alsatian whisky produced since the late 1990s by Gilbert Holl, a cognac producer and the first distiller of Alsatian whisky, in his distillery near Ribeauvillé. He uses several varieties of barley from various countries. The spirit is distilled twice, slowly in a rectifier. It is then maturated in a warehouses at a generally low temperature, leading to a low angel’‘s share. Production is very limited, with only one 300 litre cask per year, equivalent to roughly 600 bottles. The Riquewihr brewery was sold in 2015, the Gilbert Holl distillery closed in 2019, and Lac Holl is now produced and sold by Nusbaumer.
