About the domain
A reputation acquired over a thirty-year period. La Spinetta was founded by Giuseppe and Lidia Rivetti in 1977 in the Moscato d'Asti region. But the Rivettis did not restrict themselves to producing delicious dessert wines. They swiftly diversified into red wines. In 2000, their dream of producing their first Barolo came true. They followed this up by buying vines in the Grinzane Cavour region and built a state-of-the-art cellar – Barolo Campe. In 2001, La Spinetta extend beyond Piedmont with 65 hectares of Tuscan vines between Pisa and Volterra. Rivetti wines supplemented their range with 100% Sangiovese wines and definitively established the family’s reputation as one of the leading winemaking families in Italy. All the bottle labels bear an engraving of a rhinoceros by Dürer, making them extremely easy to spot!
About the cuvée
Barbaresco Valeirano is produced in a 3-hectare plot at an altitude of around 450 metres from vines that are about fifty years old. It is matured in new oak barrels for 20-22 months, then three months in stainless steel vats, with the wine then left to age for another 12 months in the bottle. The wine is then sold, three years after harvesting. The bouquet produces aromas of red berries, rose and sage. It offers richness, depth, fruitiness and an attractive texture on the palate. This wine makes the perfect accompaniment to barbecues or red wines in sauce.

Evironmentally friendly : The «environmentally friendly» designation refers to estates practising environmentally friendly wine-growing techniques, but that have not opted for certification or who are still in the process of converting to organic agriculture or biodynamics. These estates may have adopted biodynamic principles (non-certified) or simply no longer use chemical products. This designation applies to recent vintages.
Natural : Wines which are produced without any added sulfur (or almost any) and with no other inputs. However, given that there is no official body to issue the natural wine label, it is based on winemakers’ statements. This designation applies to recent vintages.
