Corton Perrières Vincent Girardin 1999 (Red)

Vincent Girardin comes from a family that has cultivated vines since the 17th century. But the real history of Domaine Vincent Girardin is recent, since it began in 1980 when Vincent Girardin took back the two hectares of vines from his parents (the family have been wine growers since the 17th century) to produce his own wine. He produces wines from environmentally-friendly vineyards (no herbicides or insecticides, natural compost and from local farms, manual harvesting), and in a very natural way. The vineyard now covers 20 hectares, spread over 42 plots, and produces wines from prestigious appellations in the Côte de Beaune (Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet, Saint Aubin, Santenay, Savigny Les Beaune, Aloxe Corton, Volnay and Pommard). Vincent Girardin had taken his Burgundy trading house to the top since it was founded in 1992. Bought by the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois in 2012, the technical team however remained the same, led by Eric Germain from Meursault. The selection of winemakers remains demanding, as is the high quality of the wines. The red wines are supple, fruity and elegant, whilst the whites are fine, pure, bold and lively.

Les perrières s’étendent au centre du village d’Aloxe Corton, sur un terrain en pente forte, exposé à l’est. Les vignes d’une quarantaine d’années cultivées en lutte raisonnée sans pesticides ni insecticides plongent leurs racines dans un terroir argilo-calcaire. Les baies, récoltées à la main sont triées sur pieds, puis passent sur une table de tri, garantissant une vendange parfaitement saine et à pleine maturité. Après éraflage et un léger foulage, les grumes sont encuvées en cuves inox, où elles macèrent à froid quelques jours. Les levures indigènes enclenchent alors la fermentation, ponctuée de remontages ou de pigeages. Après un pressurage pneumatique, le vin est entonné en fûts à un tiers neuf, pour un élevage de 15 mois. Les fûts sont assemblés en masse environ un mois avant l’embouteillage, réalisé en accord avec le calendrier lunaire.
Le caractère sauvage de Corton brille dans cette cuvée au bouquet de fruits rouges et de pivoine évoluant vers des notes terreuses et un léger boisé à l’aération. La bouche, souple et ronde fait preuve d’une belle concentration, s’allongeant en une finale minérale.
