Louis Michel et Fils

Guillaume Michel represents the sixth generation of the family in charge of this domain, producing fine, terroir-driven Chablis thanks to extensive, dedicated work in the vineyard and – quite to the contrary – as little input as possible when it comes to vinifications. The harvest is raised in stainless steel vats so as to not mark the wines too heavily. The result is perfect: pure, crystalline wines which are refined and fresh, affordably-price even in spite of their premier and grand cru status.

In the heart of Chablis, Domaine Louis Michel and Fils is one of the oldest domaines of the appellation. And, most importantly, one of the most consistent. In the family since 1850, it now has some 25 hectares of vines planted on hillsides. The key to its success is the abolition of barrel élevage. As a result, the domaine produces clear, clean, precise non-wooded wines. At the head of the domaine, Guillaume is convinced that the sustainable cultivation of his vines favours the expression of this exceptional terroir. As for his wines, he handle them as little as possible during the vinification and the élevage. This respect for the product and this long-term work are rewarded by obtaining wines to age for ten to twenty years.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY...

BETTANE & DESSEAUVE

The terroir has remarkable history […] these wines often start out rather discrete in the bottle yet over the years will express their wonderful crystalline purity.

LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

Managed by Jean-Loup and Guillaume Michel, this domain founded in 1850 has always produced very pure, direct Chablis premiers crus by avoiding the use of oak. Discrete in their youth, these Chardonnays are made to evolve for ten to twenty years in the bottle.
