Information
Deemed to be the very best grand cru of the Côteaux du Layon Chaume, the Quarts-de-Chaume vineyard is located in the municipality of Rochefort sur Loire on a clay-gravel hillside slope that enjoys south-facing exposure overlooking the river Layon. Its name dates back to the Middle Ages, when a quarter of the village of Chaume's harvest from the vineyard worked by monks, had to be handed over to the local lord who selected the very best casks. The vineyard produces a light fortified white wine made from harvests that are sorted in successive sessions. Combining finesse and power, the Quarts-de-Chaume develops subtle aromas of apricot, peach and honey due to the complexity of its soil. Boasting incredible length on the palate, this wine is one of the world's ultimate soft white wines. Furthermore, low production makes this a rare wine that is particularly highly sought after by connoisseurs.
