Faugères Domaine Jean-Michel Alquier Les Premières 2007
The wine
This cuvée made from 25 year-old vines boasts a nose that features aromas of liquorice, pepper and coffee with a hint of smoked and roasted notes. Full-bodied on the palate with aromas of ripe fruit. The finish is spectacular and lingering. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre come from soils of grey schist and are cultivated following natural methods. Vatting periods are long and the wine is matured for between 14 and 16 months in barrels, before being bottled without filtering.
About the Producer Bardi d'Alquier
Jean Michel Alquier oversees this estate nested in the heart of the Faugères appellation. Jean-Michel Alquier has continued the family tradition passed down to him from his father and grandfather, producing wines which combine finesse, complexity, and expression of terroir. The vineyard encompasses 12 hectares, 11 of which are devoted to producing red wines, where the schistic soil of the hillside slopes are mainly given over to Syrah and Grenache Noir.
