Bunnahabhain distillé en 1989 et embouteillé en 2000 par Gordon & MacPhail dans la gamme The MacPhail's Collection. Gordon & MacPhail est un des plus vieux négociants d'Ecosse. La maison est fondée à Elgin en 1895 par James Gordon et John Alexander Macphail. Comme souvent à l'époque, c'est une épicerie et un marchand de vin. En 1915, John Alexander MacPhail se retire et un nouveau partenaire rejoint l'entreprise, John Urquhart. Il est rejoint par son fils George en 1933, quelques années après le décès de James Gordon dans un accident de voiture. Le négociant travaille avec plusieurs distilleries majeures du Speyside dont il se constitue des stocks considérables. Gordon & MacPhail embouteille aussi sous licence les whiskies de nombre de ces distilleries comme Glen Grant, Linkwood, Mortlach, Macallan ou Glenlivet. Les affaires deviennent florissantes dans les années 1970 avec des distributeurs dans plusieurs pays et la vente de fûts à plusieurs embouteilleurs italiens ; des sélections souvent devenues mythiques. Aujourd'hui, Gordon & MacPhail, toujours dirigé par la famille Urquhart dans le bâtiment d'origine, est un des négociants les plus emblématiques de la profession avec des stocks pléthoriques de whiskies parfois très anciens dont on peine à trouver l'équivalent ailleurs. L'élevage est pris en charge du début à la fin par Gordon & MacPhail.

Developed by the Highland Distilleries company in the late 19th century, before joining the Edrington group (Macallan, Glenrothes, Highland Park, Tamdhu) in the 20th century, Bunnahabhain was, until the early 2000s, only Islay's second malt to opt for an unpeated profile. A major supplier for blends (over 90% of production) such as Black Bottle, Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark and Scottish Leader, Bunnahabhain made a name for itself in 2002 with the releases of a magnificent 1968 vintage named Auld Acquaintance, a 1966 Feis Isle, a 1980 single cask and a black label 34 year old. It was a prosperous year for a distillery which until then had only a single expression, Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old, presented in a stocky green bottle and strongly influenced by its sherry cask maturation. Since being bought in 2003 by Burns Stewart Distillers (Distell group), Bunnahabhain has released numerous limited editions and finally made the most of its potential.
