The wine

A Clarendon 36 year old distilled in 1984 in the distillery’’s pot stills and bottled in 2020 by Plantation for the Extrême range, which is not dosed with sugar like many of the bottlers’’ previous ranges. The rum was aged for 35 years in bourbon casks in a tropical climate and for one year in cognac casks in France. It is marked MMW (Monymusk Wedderburn), giving it an ester content of 290-300 g/hlpa. Plantation was launched in 2003 by the Pierre Ferrand cognac house, which was founded in 1989. The house sources its casks from various distilleries and brokers but also owns the West India Rum Distillery in Barbados (WIRD) and has shares in National Rums of Jamaica, meaning it has exclusive access to Long Pond and Clarendon rums and plays a dual role as both a bottler and producer. A limited edition of 370 bottles for La Maison du Whisky.

The distillery Clarendon

Monymusk is the main brand produced at the Clarendon distillery (National Rums of Jamaica), which is located on the site of the Monymusk sugar plantation from which it takes its name. It is today owned jointly by the Jamaican government, Demerara Distillers Limited in Guyana and Maison Ferrand in France. Clarendon was built in 1949. Originally it was a small distillery equipped with a single Vendome still, which was joined in 2009 by a larger still and a five-column still. The distillery’s warehouses are located at the Inswood distillery, which is also owned by National Rums of Jamaica and closed in 1992.
