Weingut: LEDAIG TOBERMORY

Schottland, Isle of Mull. Produzierende Destillerie. Eigentümer: Die 1798 gegründete Destillerie war die einzige auf der Isle of Mull. Zwischen 1972 und 1975 hieß sie Ledaig und wurde dann in Tobermory umbenannt. Zwei Single Malts mit völlig unterschiedlichen Profilen wurden hier produziert. Zwar kann ein solcher Unterschied auf die Destillation zurückzuführen sein, aber in diesem Fall liegt er hauptsächlich an der Torfverwendung während des Mälzens. Der Tobermory-Malt verwandelt sich so manchmal in einen Ledaig (eine Art Mr. Hyde), der für seine dunkle und torfige Seite bekannt ist. Und manchmal entwickelt er sich in Richtung Tobermory (Doctor Jekyll) mit einem zugänglichen, nicht torfigen Profil. Hinzu kommt die Reifung, die von einem Extrem (First Fill Oloroso) ins andere (Refill Bourbon) schwankt. Dies gibt einen Eindruck davon, was diese Brennerei mit ihren tausend Facetten zu bieten hat. Ob nun Ledaig oder Tobermory, eines ist sicher: Der in First Fill Sherryfässern gereifte 1972er Jahrgang, ist eine absolute Ausnahmeerscheinung in der Whiskywelt. Zum Verkaufszeitpunkt sind die Whiskys auf ihrem geschmacklichen Höhepunkt. Hinweis an die Sammler.
