Craigellachie fu costruita nel 1890 da Charles Doig per conto di Sir Peter Mackie (White Horse) e di Alexander Edward, con l’idea di produrre un whisky più delicato e fruttato rispetto a quello in voga all’epoca. Edward è anche l’ideatore di Aultmore, Dallas Dhu e Benromach. Ritiratosi dagli affari nel 1900, vendette le sue quote a Mackie, che utilizzò Craigellachie per i suoi assemblaggi: White Horse, Old Smuggler e Old Gaelic. Proprietà di Distilers Company Limited (futura Diageo) che rilevò la White Horse Distillers nel 1927, Craigellachie è stata venduta a Bacardi nel 1998, contemporaneamente a Aberfeldy, Aultmore e Royal Brackla. Rimasto per molto tempo all’ombra degli assemblaggi in cui il suo stile fruttato, ceroso e carnoso è così apprezzato, il whisky di Craigellachie fa il suo debutto come single malt negli anni ‘90, con apparizioni nelle gamme Flora and Fauna e Rare Malt. Oggi vanta una linea tutta sua di single malt, lanciata nel 2014 tra i Last Great Malts di Dewar’s.
