Prima di diventare il secondo marchio di single malt distillato all'interno di Springbank, Longrow era una distilleria a parte, i cui resti si trovano vicino al parcheggio e all'area di imbottigliamento di Springbank. Longrow ottenne la licenza nel 1824 ma chiuse nel 1896. Nel 1973, i Mitchell, discendenti di una lunga dinastia di distillatori di Campbeltown, iniziarono a distillare a Springbank un malt whisky molto torbato (55 ppm di fenoli). Longrow rinasce così dalle sue ceneri e da quel momento diventa l'alter ego torbato di Springbank. Ma la produzione è sporadica. Del periodo 1975-1986 non rimane traccia. Riprende l’attività nel 1987, come testimoniano alcune botti imbottigliate per conto di commercianti di distillati, tra cui Signatory Vintage. Nello stesso periodo, i proprietari imbottigliano le prime due annate della distillazione di Longrow, 1973 e 1974. Edizioni diventate immediatamente cult tra gli appassionati dei whisky torbati e dei collezionisti.
