Schottland, Speyside. Aktive Destillerie Eigentümer: Edrington Group.

Trotz einer wechselhaften Geschichte, die so manche Destillerie blass aussehen lässt, konnte Glenrothes seinen exklusiven und einzigartigen Charakter bewahren. Die Brennerei war mehr als ein Jahrhundert lang im Besitz von Highland Distillers (Edrington Group), denen damals auch Macallan, Bunnahabhain, Highland Park und Tamdhu gehörten. In den 1980er und 90er Jahren machte sie sich unter Whisky-Liebhabern mit einer hervorragenden, 12 Jahre alten Version, die in ehemaligen Sherry-Fässern reifte, einen Namen. Die Brennerei und Marke The Glenrothes hat im Lauf der Zeit mehrfach den Besitzer gewechselt (Pernod Ricard, Berry Brothers & Rudd). Dennoch genießt sie unter Kennern besonderes Ansehen. Dies zeigt der anhaltende Erfolg ihrer Jahrgangs-Whiskys 1972, 1973 und 1979, auch wenn der größte Teil der Produktion für die Blends Cutty Sark und Famous Grouse verwendet wird.
