Valtellina Superiore DOCG Ar.Pe.Pe. Grumello Riserva Buon Consiglio 2013

A staple in Italy, Nebbiolo is known to the Italians as the Emperor grape variety, originating in Valtellina in northern Lombardy. Renowned for producing powerful, light-coloured wines, these vines grow at an altitude of 370 metres. The hot weather helps the grapes to thicken their skins and concentrate their mineral notes. In the vineyards, the grapes are harvested by hand and integrated cultivation methods allow the king of grapes to draw the best from the soil, extracting all the nutrients it needs. In the winery, the grapes undergo a long maceration, during which they are pumped over several times to extract the tannins and colour from the marc. Before bottling, the wine is left to rest in oak barrels for 18 months. Particularly elegant, the ruby colour promises a flood of aromas. The floral notes on the nose blend with the subtle flavours of Morello cherry. On the palate, the light tannins reveal a harmonious structure and fine balance.
