Known also under the name Ayrshire for its independent bottlings, Ladyburn is one of the various “distilleries” which was set up within a grain spirit production unit in the 1960s (1966 in this case) before being quickly closed (1975) due to the difficult economic climate. From a technical standpoint, Ladyburn was therefore a Lowland single malt produced using double distillation (two pairs of pot stills set up in Girvan), whose production was fated to supply the Grant's blend of the family-owned group William Grant & Sons in order to provide relief to the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries. A few vintage single cask expressions exist, including the 1973 and 1974.

A Girvan distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2018, matured for 25 years in a second-fill bourbon cask. This is a limited edition of 200 bottles for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by a group of friends with a particular passion for whisky. The club selects casks whose bottles are then only available to members. The name of the distillery is not mentioned on the label but each distillery is given a number as the malt is bottled. The first cask selected by the SMWS, for example, was Glenfarclas, and it therefore uses the number 1. The second number refers to the number of bottlings from each distillery. The club was sold to Glenmorangie in 2004 and then to a group of investors in 2016.
