Glenury Royal was built in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, who was a friend of King William IV, enabling it to use the ‘Royal' prefix. After changing hands on various occasions, it was bought by Distillers Company Limited (DCL, the future Diageo) in 1953. After being expanded in 1985 in the midst of a whisky boom, it closed in 1985 in the height of the overproduction crisis. Glenury Royal is an oily, lightly peated and exotic whisky, a few bottles of which can be found among independent bottlers and in Diageo's Rare Malts range.

A Glenury 16 year old distilled in 1978 and bottled by Signatory Vintage in 1995. Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington, who previously worked at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh, where he would select casks specially for the hotel. In 2002, he bought the Edradour distillery in Pitlochry, in the Highlands of Scotland and moved Signatory Vintage to the site, including the warehouses opposite the distillery. A limited edition of 620 bottles.
