Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of the legendary Côte de Nuits, Domaine Castagnier is a family estate that has undergone a profound transformation since Jérôme Castagnier took over its management in 2004. Originally trained as a trumpeter with the French Republican Guard, Jérôme chose to return to his family’s winegrowing roots, bringing renewed energy to the estate. His arrival marked a turning point, both in the estate’s philosophy and in the modernisation of its winery.
The vineyard extends across around four hectares, spread over some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Clos de Vougeot. The estate also owns several Grands Crus, including rare and highly sought-after parcels that have firmly established its reputation within the burgundy winegrowing landscape.
Jérôme Castagnier follows a meticulous approach rooted in respect for the terroir in both the vineyard and the winery. The Vosne-Romanée appellation, renowned the world over, is the source of exquisite Premier Crus capable of rivalling the finest. The Les Suchots climat, which according to legend was the first candidate for Grand Cru status, is planted with Pinot Noir vines averaging around thirty years of age. Each parcel benefits from organic cultivation methods. The hand-picked fruit is carefully vinified, limiting both intervention and the addition of sulphur to the minimum.
The deep red colour reveals a captivating bouquet, harmoniously combining red fruit aromas with subtle hints of liquorice. The full, generous palate affirms the aromas of the nose, with notes of undergrowth, gently leading to a lingering, delicious finish. This 100% Pinot can be enjoyed young, while also offering excellent cellaring potential.
