Dopo settant'anni trascorsi sotto i colori americani (JG Turney & Sons) e francesi (Pernod Ricard), la più piccola distilleria della Scozia è tornata a essere scozzese al 100% e ha ritrovato la sua indipendenza il 22 luglio 2002. Fino a questo momento, la sua intera produzione era assorbita dai blend del gruppo: Clan Campbell, House of Lord e King Ransom. Tuttavia, una versione invecchiata 10 anni era stata rilasciata nel 1986. È rimasta così fino al 2002. Come molte distillerie che sono tornate indipendenti, Edradour ha conosciuto, sotto l'egida di Andrew Symington (proprietario di Signatory Vintage), uno sviluppo folgorante che le ha consentito di rivelare la complessità del suo profilo. Passata nelle mani dell'ex manager di Laphroaig, Ian Henderson, diventato per un po' master distiller d'Edradour, la distilleria ha adottato anche l’uso torba e produce al suo interno un secondo malt whisky, chiamato Ballechin.
