Tenuta: Glen Albyn

Costruita nel 1846 sul sito di un vecchio mulino, la distilleria Glen Albyn deve la sua nascita a James Sutherland, prevosto di Inverness, una città che un tempo era ricca di maltifici e birrerie. L’edificio fu convertito in mulino a farina nel 1866, prima di tornare ad essere una distilleria nel 1884. Il responsabile John Birnie la abbandonò poi per stringere una collaborazione con l’assemblatore di Leith, Charles Mackinlay. I due fondarono insieme la vicina distilleria di Glen Mhor nel 1892, per poi rilevare Glen Albyn nel 1920. Le due distillerie passarono sotto la gestione del gruppo Distillers Company Limited (DCL) dopo l’acquisizione di Mackinlay & Birnie nel 1972, ma chiusero entrambe nel 1983, un vero annus horribilis per il Whisky Loch. Infine, furono demolite. Si può trovare qualche rara bottiglia ufficiale di Glen Albyn negli anni ‘60 e ‘70, poi nei Rare Malts o presso qualche negoziante.
