Situata nell’estremo sud-ovest delle Lowlands, non lontano dal confine con l’Inghilterra, Bladnoch ha sempre rivolto lo sguardo a Belfast (Irlanda), a cui è geograficamente molto vicina. Questa attrazione si ritrova anche nel suo passato, visto che a partire dal 1911, i McClelland, fondatori della distilleria, entrarono in società con il gruppo irlandese Wm Dunville & Co di Belfast. Chiusa dal 1938 al 1956, passò poi di mano in mano: Inver House Distillers Ltd, Arthur Bell & Sons e infine United Distillers, tutte società per le quali essa produce un whisky principalmente destinato ai blend di questi gruppi. Le sue bottiglie sono piuttosto rare fino alla metà degli anni ‘90. United Distillers le include tuttavia nelle sue due gamme rare dell’epoca, The Rare Malts Selection e Flora & Fauna, ma decide di chiudere il sito nel 1993. Nel 1994 un irlandese del nord, Raymond Armstrong, si offre di rilevare la distilleria come centro culturale. Nonostante la firma di una clausola che limita la produzione a 100.000 litri di alcol all’anno, nel 2000 egli decide di rilanciare l’attività e di moltiplicare le bottiglie di Bladnoch.
