Alex Gambal resembles the many Americans who have fallen in love with Burgundy, except that he decided to settle there and produce his own wine. In 1997, he moved to Beaune and developed his trading firm. Today he is supported by Alexandre Brault, who also abandoned the world of finance to devote himself to wine. Within a few years, the pair won over the local community and beyond. Maison Alex Gambal has recently partnered with the Domaine Christophe Buisson to vinify its own 20 hectares of vineyards, moving against the current trend of wine growers who complete their activity through trading
In the Chassagne and Puligny areas, you will have no doubt noticed the stunning hillside from which the world’s most prestigious white Grand Crus are produced. Here, on a minuscule parcel of the Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Alex Gambal’s Chardonnay is meticulously farmed and vinified. The soils or limestone, marl and clay are ploughed by horse. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches before being vinified and matured for 17 months in casks. This Grand Cru expresses its complexity with vibrancy. Powerful aromatic notes of flowers and citrus fruits lift a frank and harmonious palette, which is particularly persistent and mineral.
