Founded in 1860, Dailuaine was quickly incorporated into the Distillers Company Limited, which saved a large number of Scottish distilleries from closure at the end of the First World War. From then on, it became a key component in the blends Buchanan and Johnnie Walker. Its name was also associated with that of the Talisker distillery, with which it formed part of the group Dailuaine - Talisker Distilleries Ltd. for some 15 years between 1989 and 1915. A trademark still by found by a lucky few on historic bottlings of Talisker. Bottlings in its own name are extremely limited and found in the ranges The Rare Malts Selection, Flora & Fauna and Manager's Dram. Notably, however, a superb limited edition was released in 1997 in the very brief Flora & Fauna Cask Strength range, a sherry cask 1980 vintage.

A Daluaine 22 year old distilled in 1973 and bottled at cask strength in 1996 for the Rare Malts series. Created in the mid-1990s by United Distillers (Diageo), the Rare Malts series features bottlings from many of the group’’s distilleries, including some of the lesser known whose production was generally used for blends, as well as closed distilleries such as Port Ellen and Brora. Bottled at cask strength, the whiskies in the range are also known for their sometimes astounding alcohol content, often exceeding 60% ABV. The Rare Malts range was discontinued in 2005.
