Nestled in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, in Vertus, the family-run house of Veuve Fourny & Fils has been perpetuating the art of handcrafted Champagne for five generations, guided by a deep understanding of both vintage and terroir. The Chardonnay vines are rooted in a truly unique terroir, composed predominantly of Campanian chalk. This free-draining, mineral-rich soil brings freshness, finesse and remarkable aromatic complexity to the wines. Classified as a Premier cru village, Vertus benefits from a range of different aspects, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually and evenly, making it particularly well suited to vintage Champagnes. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness following a rigorous selection of the finest parcels. Partial vinification in oak casks, without malolactic fermentation, preserves the brightness of the fruit and the wine’s mineral character. Several months’ ageing on fine lees, followed by extended ageing in the cellar, further refines its structure and ageing potential.
The pale golden hue is animated by a stream of fine, persistent bubbles. The refined nose reveals aromas of pear, fresh walnut, marzipan and delicate brioche notes. The broad and taut palate is lifted by a long, saline finish.
