Fondata nel 1825, la storia di Ben Nevis è intimamente legata a quella di un blend dalla reputazione internazionale: Long John. A partire dal 1831, Ben Nevis divenne proprietà di John MacDonald, soprannominato Long John per via della sua altezza. Dal 1955 al 1981, Ben Nevis si dotò di un alambicco a colonna di tipo Coffey Still per la distillazione di un alcol di grano e malto. Un metodo di produzione caro ai distillatori giapponesi, tra cui la società Nikka, che nel 1989 acquistò la distilleria. Per l’occasione fu imbottigliata la botte più vecchia di Ben Nevis, che dette vita al ricercatissimo Ben Nevis 1926, un “under strength” 63 anni in edizione limitata a 98 bottiglie. Da allora Ben Nevis continua a distinguersi e a mostrare il suo carattere esclusivo proponendo rarissime edizioni millesimate del suo malto di tipo single cask (1966, 67 ecc...) e di tipo small batch, Ben Nevis 21 anni 1996. A somiglianza di Karuizawa, Ben Nevis è un malto robusto che si avvale di un lungo periodo di maturazione in botti di ex sherry.
