Talisker, un single malt di punta della gamma “Six Classic Malts” inaugurato alla fine degli anni ‘80, godeva già di grande prestigioso tra gli appassionati di whisky torbati. Negli anni ‘70, questo malto proponeva versioni di 8 anni (45,8%) e 12 anni (43%). Nel corso degli anni ‘80 comparve sull’etichetta il celebre dandy “Johnnie Walker”, che sostituì lo stemma della distilleria utilizzato fino ad allora (anni ‘50, ‘60 e ‘70). Maggiore fornitore di malto per i blend Johnnie Walker, Te Beag, White Horse e Isle of Skye, Talisker fu per diversi anni ridotto alle due soli espressioni Classic Malts e Distillers Edition. Tuttavia, a partire dal 2001 gli imbottigliamenti subirono un’accelerazione con l’uscita di versioni di età venerabile (20, 25, 30 e 35 anni), fino alla comparsa nel 2016 di un’edizione limitata in 5 esemplari di un Talisker 40 anni, The Rare Malts Selection (45,7%). La prima e ultima volta, dato che, al pari di Lagavulin, questa edizione di Talisker è rimasta un caso unico nella storia della gamma Rare Malts.
