“Malto da blend” per eccellenza, Longmorn è considerato dall’industria del whisky scozzese un “Top Malt”. Questo titolo, condiviso solamente da dodici delle circa cento distillerie distribuite nelle Highlands, tra cui Macallan, gli ha permesso di superare senza troppe difficoltà le turbolenze del XX secolo all’ombra di Chivas Regal. Per molto tempo ridotto a due sole edizioni, il Longmorn 10 anni e il Longmorn 15 anni, fu solo nel 21° secolo (2004) che i suoi proprietari decisero di riconoscergli il diritto di esistere sulla scena internazionale come single malt, dotandolo di bottiglie specifiche. Nel frattempo, i negozianti hanno investito in questo malto. Facendo dell’invecchiamento in botti di sherry il suo marchio di fabbrica, Gordon & MacPhail gli ha regalato un’identità apprezzata e riconosciuta da appassionati e collezionisti.
