Weingut: Bladnoch

Schottland, Lowlands. Aktive Destillerie. Eigentümer: David Prior. In den südwestlichen Lowlands, unweit der englischen Grenze, hatte Bladnoch schon immer die Ambition, seine Aktivitäten ins nahe, irische Belfast auszudehnen. Ab 1911 schloss sich die Familie McClelland, die Gründer der Brennerei, mit dem irischen Unternehmen Wm Dunville & Co aus Belfast zusammen. Zwischen 1938 und 1956 war die Brennerei geschlossen, bevor häufige Besitzerwechsel folgten. Sie gehörte Inver House Distillers Ltd, Arthur Bell & Sons und schließlich United Distillers. Destilliert wurde hauptsächlich Whisky für die Blends dieser Unternehmen. Bis Mitte der 1990er-Jahre waren eigene Abfüllungen selten. United Distillers brachte sie in den beiden Reihen The Rare Malts Selection und Flora & Fauna auf den Markt. 1993 beschloss das Unternehmen jedoch, den Standort zu schließen. 1994 kaufte der Nordirländer Raymond Armstrong das Gelände, um es in ein Kulturzentrum umzufunktionieren. Trotz einer Klausel im Kaufvertrag, die die Produktion auf 100 000 Flaschen jährlich beschränkte, nahm er 2000 die Produktion wieder auf und erhöhte die Anzahl der in Bladnoch abgefüllten Flaschen.
