Glenury Royal 23 years 1971 Of. Rare Malts Selection Natural Cask Strengh Limited Edition
The wine
A whisky from the Glenury Royal distillery (Highlands), which closed in 1983, distilled in 1971 and bottled at 61.3% cask strength after 23 years of maturation. Created in 1996 by United Distillers, the Rare Malts range featured bottlings of rare whiskies often from closed distilleries. Bottle number 0719.
About the Producer Glenury Royal
Glenury Royal was built in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, who was a friend of King William IV, enabling it to use the ‘Royal' prefix. After changing hands on various occasions, it was bought by Distillers Company Limited (DCL, the future Diageo) in 1953. After being expanded in 1985 in the midst of a whisky boom, it closed in 1985 in the height of the overproduction crisis. Glenury Royal is an oily, lightly peated and exotic whisky, a few bottles of which can be found among independent bottlers and in Diageo's Rare Malts range.
