About the Producer Trois Rivières
The Trois Rivières plantation was founded on land briefly owned by the controversial French Statesman Jean-Baptiste Colbert in the 17th century. It is named after the three rivers bordering the sugarcane fields, Oman, Bois d’‘Inde and Saint Pierre. Sugar refinery activities intensified in the second half of the 18th century. The property began producing rum in 1785 under the impetus of the new owner Etienne Isaïe Marraud Des Grottes. Sugar production activities then ceased in favour of rum in 1905 after the estate was bought by Amédée Aubéry. His son expanded the plantation, moving the Dizac distillery in Diamant to Trois Rivières and specializing in the production of agricole rum. In 1953, the Marraud des Grottes family, which already owned the Duquesne distillery, bought the property and began producint rum under that name until 1972. After being bought in 1994 by Bellonnie & Bourdillon, who already owned La Mauny, the distillery moved from Sainte-Luce to Rivière Pilote in 2004.
