About the producer

Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.

About the wine

The Mongeard-Mugneret domain now operates an expansive vineyard network, following the best Burgundy traditions. It covers land in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, including some of the most prestigious villages (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Savigny-lès-Beaune). The heart of the operation remains in Vosne-Romanée. Vincent Mongeard (Jean's son) strives not only to maintain and enhance the family heritage, but also to expand it whenever the opportunity arises, in order to extend the domain's range. The operation now includes around 30 hectares of land, spread across 33 appellations producing not only white Burgundy and Aligoté wines, but also – and mainly – red wines from the Côte's finest vineyards. The vines are located mid-slope, facing south-east, on limestone-clay soil. This domain produces excellent, racy, delicate cuvées with superb velvety textures.
Produced from vines aged between 25 and 50 years, this cuvée is vinified using one-third new wood. On tasting, the bouquet is immediately seductive with its aromas of red berries (raspberry, blackcurrant); the palate reveals an attractively full-bodied, rich substance which is nonetheless countered by an attractive freshness and silky texture. A good balance overall.
