Information
Although there has never been any classification for Pomerol wines, Château L'Evangile is undoubtedly among the best wines of the appellation. The domain was created in the middle of the 18th century, by the Léglise family from Libourne, who contributed to the quality of the Pomerol vineyard, alongside the owners of Petrus (Arnaud family), La Conseillante (Catherine Conseillant) and Trotanoy (Giraud family). This vineyard enjoys an exceptional situation within Pomerol between Petrus and Cheval Blanc. Previously called Fazilleau, the domain was named l’Evangile at the beginning of the 19th century, under the guidance of the lawyer Isambert, who was owner until 1862. Paul Chaperon bought the Chateau L'Evangile that remained under the supervision of his descendants, the Ducasse family, until 1990. Since then, l’Evangile has been purchased by the Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). Under the impulse of Jean-Pascal Vazart, new care has been given to the vineyard, new plots were purchased and the wines are more successful each year.
Blason de l’Evangile is matured for 15 months for two years in barrels. The wine displays fruit aromas, a dense mouthfeel, smooth tannins and a controlled power.
