Information
Owned since 1940 by the Cournut family, Château de la Maltroye, located in Chassagne-Montrachet, has 13 hectares of vineyards, 70% of which are premier cru and two hectares are in Santenay. In the cellar, the whites are fermented in barrels with lees stirring, their élevage lasting 12 months. The reds undergo cold pre-fermentation and their barrel élevage lasts between 14 and 18 months. The domaine is managed by Jean-Pierre Cornut, a former aeronautical engineer. The wines are high-quality, fresh and fruity, with great potential.
With an exceptional eye for detail, Jean-Pierre de Champs from Château de la Maltroye wishes to let the terroir fully express itself. To create this Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru, he opted for heat-controlled, alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation on lees and a year-long maturation. It has a pale, golden colour and gives off delicate aromas of white fruit, citrus and butter. Dense but lifted by a pleasant acidity, the unctuous palate promises good ageing potential and calls for pairings with noble dishes like lobster.
