Information
Owned since 1940 by the Cournut family, Château de la Maltroye, located in Chassagne-Montrachet, has 13 hectares of vineyards, 70% of which are premier cru and two hectares are in Santenay. In the cellar, the whites are fermented in barrels with lees stirring, their élevage lasting 12 months. The reds undergo cold pre-fermentation and their barrel élevage lasts between 14 and 18 months. The domaine is managed by Jean-Pierre Cornut, a former aeronautical engineer. The wines are high-quality, fresh and fruity, with great potential.
This Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru comes from a single-hectare parcel of clay and chalk soil. The Chardonnay vines, with an average age of 50, are grown with attentive methods. The fermentation is carried out at a low temperature in order to preserve the Chardonnay’s delicate character. Malolactic fermentation, stirring, and maturation in oak barrels bring a certain complexity to the resulting wine. This is expressed through an aromatic bouquet marked by notes of citrus, exotic fruits, toast and flowers, as well as through a powerful, dense mouthfeel with a salty finish. Age this wine for ten years in the cellar. This will develop a capacity for pairing with flavourful, gastronomic dishes.
