15 kilometres from Bordeaux, in the southern part of the appellation, Larrivet-Haut-Brion's vines stand alongside those of Haut-Bailly. The property's name reflects the numerous changes that have taken place in the course of the past two centuries. Initially entitled Château de Canolle, then La Rivette, it took the name of Château Haut-Brion-Larrivet in 1874. The property belonged successively to a Bordeaux merchant, and then to some true Bordeaux lovers, the sons of Théodore Conseil, who oversaw its development. At that time there were 50 hectares of vines. In the 1930s, under the effects of the economic crisis, production was almost wiped out. In 1949, it took its current name, Château Larrivet Haut-Brion, and it was thanks to Christine and Philippe Gervoson that the property was restored, with the repurchase of the original plots. Following substantial investment, the wines' quality was gradually re-established. Since 1996, there has been a succession of fine vintages that give full expression to the terroir: Larrivet Haut-Brion's vineyard is planted on a clayey soil consisting of sand and iron-rich clay. The property has been managed by Bruno Lemoine, who oversees both its administration and its wine production, since 2007. The red wines show great finesse, with a rather tannic, but also very supple character. Always very well-balanced, they reach their full potential after a few years in the cellar.*The above information describes the wine and is not vintage specific.

The "bio" designation covers certified wines produced by biodynamic or organic methods, sustainably produced wines, and "environmentally friendly" wines that are not officially certified. See the blog article for more information.
The "biodynamic" designation covers all estates certified for using biodynamic methods or in the process of converting to biodynamics. They are accredited by one of the two official bodies, Demeter or Biodyvin. All wines produced by biodynamic methods are also certified as organic.
The "organic" designation covers all estates certified for using organic methods or in the process of converting to organic agriculture. They are accredited by one of the bodies approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, such as Ecocert.
The "sustainable" designation covers all estates certified for using sustainable or High Environmental Value (level 3 Environmental Certification) techniques.
The "environmentally friendly" designation refers to estates practising environmentally friendly wine-growing techniques, but that have not opted for certification. These estates may have adopted biodynamic principles (non-certified) or simply no longer use chemical products.
