Alsace Riesling Clos Sainte-Hune Vendanges Tardives Trimbach (Domaine) 1989
The wine
A true Alsace wine icon, this cuvée is the product of a simply exceptional terroir: Clos Saint Hune. This Trimbach family monopole provides ideal conditions for growing Riesling, a noble Alsace variety. Produced in small quantities, this cuvée is a coveted item not only for its rarity, but also its meticulous creation: the grapes are harvested once they have reached their full maturity from a technical perspective, judged in terms of their dehydration levels. The grapes turn into raisins on the vine, increasing the sugar concentration of the juice. This wine is characterised by a golden appearance with coppery highlights, a fabulous aromatic complexity consisting of over-ripe aromas (dried fruit, exotic fruit) and a very rich, creamy texture on the palate. Despite its 25g of residual sugars, the wine retains a dry, fresh character which lends it style and elegance.
About the Producer Trimbach
Descendants of a long line of wine enthusiasts, Hubert and Bernard Trimbach manage the property with their sons Pierre and Jean. Firmly rooted in Alsace since 1626, the Trimbach name rapidly gained a regional and then international reputation, largely thanks to Frédéric-Emile Trimbach at the end of the 19th century. The property is located on some magnificent terroirs, some benefitting from grand cru status, but appellation approval has never really interested the Trimbach family, who prefer to produce distinguished blends that they market under their own brand names. Their vinification methods have resisted the siren call of modern technology; the owners monitor every stage, with a strict respect for tradition, in order to ensure that the famous "Trimbach style" is preserved, which serves as an international benchmark for Alsace wines.
