The wine
Vougeot is the smallest commune in the Côte de Nuits. The name Vougeot comes from the river Vouge that runs through the appellation. If we take off the 50 hectares of the mythic Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (delimited and planted by the Cîteaux monks, today divided up between 80 owners), and the houses and roads from its 80 hectares, only a dozen hectares would be left of the Vougeot vineyards, four of which are premiers crus (Clos de la Perrière, Clos Blanc, Les Crâs and Les Petits Vougeots). Vougeot also has five Village classified hectares, the first appellation level. Less deep than its counterpart in Premier Cru, but with similar characteristics, Vougeot Village has a robust structure with delicate tannins.
